JOanna NIxon

BIO
Picture
Joanna Nixon is a life-long eclectic and prolific artist, like her gamma and grandfather before her. About 20 years ago, while living free in Mexico, she lost the left side of her brain to a bacterial infection. She regained most of her artistic ability by stubbornly following her pagan faith with truth and understanding. She is unable to read or write, so to understand people she adapted by listening to the positive, funny, and profound words they speak. Her motivation is to gain understanding and truth, and become a better person. Response from others has been awesome—winning first, second, or third in every painting contest entered.

Joanna has been cartooning, drawing, and painting for 15 years, and is a featured artist in all 7 annual comix anthologies from A.B.O. Comix, an abolitionist publishing collective based in Oakland, CA. She has been featured in free-world art shows in venues such as New York University, the RAND Corporation, Holland Gallery in Reno NV. Specific exhibitions include: USC annual system impacted art contest, Los Angeles (2022), Painting Ourselves into Society, Berkeley Art Center (2024). Her first full-length prose publication is forthcoming with support from the University of Southern California’s Prison Education Program.

A Queer Prisoner's Comix Anthology: Dreams & Nightmares

$7.00 - $30.00

Do prisoners dream? After all, for many, the act of incarceration was a world ending event. Most lose almost everything: family, friends, jobs, property...all fed to the Nightmarish Machine known as the P.I.C. Yet even at the end, it's never over. It is often a metamorphosis; an invitation for a new beginning. Alone we die by degrees. Together we live the dream. And we won't rest until all of us are free!

-Baphy

This anthology features the comix and art of dozens of contributors on the topic of dreams...and nightmares. Proceeds donated back to the creators commissary accounts to help fund the purchase of food, clothes, toiletries, gender affirming items, medical copays, art supplies and much more!
